Creation of the forest-garden. Step 4: the first raised culture beds

Even if the creation of raised culture beds is far from a requirement in permaculture, it is recommended when it is necessary to increase the depth of the soil and improve the texture. With degraded soil like ours, and despite the winter mulching of phase 3, we don't really have a choice, at least for the first few years. Subsequently, when, thanks to the organic matter (mulching, direct composting) and the return of its decomposers, the natural fertility of the soil has been regenerated, we can return to a crop of the herbaceous layer "on the ground".

Phase 4 officially started with the Introduction to Permaculture which was organized at Rifugio Seremus from April 30 to May 3. We took the opportunity to create - with enthusiastic trainees - the first beds of the forest-garden. Broad beans, radishes, zucchini, tomatoes and peppers were transplanted and sown directly in the culture beds.

A beautiful moment, shared with beautiful people.
